Announced last week as part of the European launch of Huawei’s AppStore, the partnership will allow Huawei smartphone users in China and Europe to download VizEat’s app in a variety of languages, including Mandarin. “It made perfect sense to collaborate,” VizEat co-founder and CEO Jean-Michel Petit told gbtimes, saying there was “a great appetite for immersive food experiences from Chinese travellers.” He added that a recent VizEat survey had shown that 86% of Chinese travellers would like to eat at a local’s home on a trip abroad. Along with Huawei, VizEat have also announced partnerships with Chinese trip-planning giant Ctrip and local guided tour company 8Pig Travel in the last month. The company launched a Mandarin app earlier this year with Weibo and WeChat integration and has worked with Zhou Ruoxue (Patty), a Chinese travel blogger with over 1.5 million Weibo followers. Launched in 2014, VizEat now has 25,000 hosts in 110 countries, with plans to expand into Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan over the next year. Travellers in mainland China looking for an authentic home-cooked meal will not have long to wait either – Jean-Michel Petit says VizEat will launch its Chinese community of hosts in early 2018.
