Japan's government regards the licensing systems of seven countries and territories as comparable. China is not one of them, and nor is it a signatory to the Geneva convention. So it would seem that very few Chinese visitors to Japan qualify to drive. Yet a survey by the Okinawa prefectural government found that 11% of Chinese visitors to Japan rented cars. In Hokkaido, a popular northern destination for Chinese tourists, 16% of those surveyed said they had rented a vehicle. The suspicious licenses compound safety concerns, with record tourist traffic to Japan bringing a rise in road accidents involving rented vehicles. Read Original Article |
