HotelPlanner says the acquisition will allow it expand the existing service with additional tools for targeting individual travelers as well as groups.

Hotel booking and group travel specialist HotelPlanner has acquired accommodation auction site BackBid.
The purchase has seen the end of the BackBid brand and its technology will be folded into the existing HotelPlanner suite of services on the main site.
Canada-based BackBid first emerged on the scene in 2011 with a platform to allow travelers sell unwanted hotel bookings in the event of a cancelation or change of requirements.
The company had not raised any significant funding rounds and had been fairly quiet for the last three years.
