Flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia and French-based Accor, one of the world’s leading hotel operators, signed a new agreement Tuesday to extend their successful strategic global partnership.
Under the deal, the two companies will offer special rates and facilities, including online transactions, for customers, as well as joint promotion campaigns. For Garuda clients, this means access to more than 3,600 hotels operated by Accor globally. For Accor, it means access to an airline with more than 600 flights a day. “This is one of our efforts to strengthen our reputation as a global player,” Garuda President Director M. Arif Wibowo said at the signing at the Pullman Jakarta Hotel, a member of one Accor hotel chain. “Accor is committed to be a strategic partner for Garuda Indonesia to support business development for both companies,” said Gerard Guillouet, Accor chief operating officer for Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore. The deal extends a 2012 agreement that Arif deemed to be successful in boosting synergy to improve hospitality and comfort of their respective customers. Garuda earned US$10 million in 2014 from the agreement with Accor and this is expected to increase by up to 12 percent this year, Arif said. Accor currently operates 88 hotels and more than 17,000 rooms in Indonesia, under different brand names, including Pullman, Ibis, Novotel, Mercure and Sofitel. The company, which employs nearly 6,000 people, hopes to increase the number to 100 properties. Guillouet says the partnership with Garuda will help Accor promote Indonesia to foreign visitors, as well as encourage Indonesians to travel abroad. |
