Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com announced on June 26 that the company has signed a strategic agreement with China Eastern Airlines to cooperate on air freight, passenger transport, brand marketing, corporate procurement, membership management, information digitization and more. Shanghai-based China Eastern will help JD, considered the Amazon of China, build an air transfer center and a warehouse, and jointly create a cross-border logistics network as well as an integrated domestic and international warehouse service.
JD said that the two companies complement each other in strategic positioning and other aspects. The e-commerce giant spun off its logistics arm for independent operation in late April to bring in more partners to jointly set up a value network of logistics, e-commerce, finance, insurance, data and technology so as to lower supply chain costs. Through the tie-up with China Eastern, JD intends to enhance its air logistics operation and strengthen the business on its corporate procurement platform, specifically in the area of corporate travel management.
